Natural way to keep cats out of my garden and off my property?

I just put bark in the front and backyard and the local cats are using it like a litter box. Don’t want to use anything that will harm the cats, vegetables, bushes and flowers.

Spray them with the hose. They hate water. It may take some time, but maybe they will get tired of it, and find somewhere else to potty.

Get some chicken wire and place it over the mulch. Cats hate walking on that stuff, no matter how bad they have to “go.” Another cheap and effective way is to use rocks instead of mulch.

Um… buy commercial cat repellent. Cayenne pepper should deter them, but no guaruntees. Cats are fickle beings, and if a cat wants to go somewhere they will.

You may own a cat but you may not govern one.

Cats see fresh beauty bark like a newly changed catbox, unfortunately. However, cats HATE the smell of Vicks Vapo-Rub. They won’t go near it. Smear it on a piece of cardboard and put it in your yard. Kitties won’t go near it, no matter how enticing fresh beauty bark is.
I have also noticed that they can’t stand the smell of Noxema…everytime I wash my face, my cat can smell it in the other room and takes off running and making bad faces at me.
    Oh! And also citrus smells!
I wish you the best of luck!

Personally, I try to attract cats. I planted catnip all around the outside edges. They do less damage then the groundhogs, foxes, rabbits and deer (yes, a stoned cat will attack a deer). You have a different situation, cats are fairly smart about things, maybe you could accommodate them somehow with a cat pooping area? Maybe a few small areas of sand instead of mulch? They can be a welcomed helper if you figure out how to use them.

I don’t know the name of the plants but I’ve seen them at my local Walmart before…they are plants that repel dogs, cats and rabbits..the plants run about $3-$4 ea but if they work it’s worth it…not sure if they are perennials or annuals…good luck
