What is a good all around natural pest killer (ants too) to use?

I just got my flower and veggie gardens started, I am trying to find a natural way to keep common garden pests off my plants.

I know indoors we’ve used black pepper to discourage them. I’ve done it outside, too, but the results really weren’t that noticeable (but I was very bad checking it!).

There is an oil of mint spray that seems to work well without being highly toxic to animals or people. I’ve used it and it seems to work well. The only thing is you have to reapply it a lot outside.

All the information you could ever want (and more!) are on this website. It’s for California, so I’m not sure if it has your pests, but it is very good about getting you to use non-toxic means to control pests. Once you figure out what pests you have (I get snails), then cruise on over to the pest (or type it into the search engine they have) and you’ll get a lot of good information. This is all peer-reviewed and from a University.
