Can you imagine an amazing herb strong enough to sterilize sewage water, but gentle enough not to harm human tissue? Most of us are very familiar with this herb as it is used for flavoring in cooking. Now more of us are realizing the incredible health benefits of this herb when it is delivered in essential oil form. Essential oils work far faster than teas and many times faster than capsules and are readily digestible and quickly absorbed and assimilated into our physical system. We all have heard of oregano as it is used on our pizza. Now we can realize the health benefits of oregano in essential oil form.
The results of research done in 1910 by W.H. Martindale, lead him to conclude that “the essential oil of oregano is the most powerful plant-derived antiseptic known.” Research in 1977 done by Dr. Belaniche resulted in his “oregano Index” against which all other antibacterial substances are compared. Oil of Oregano is the closest to being the ideal antibacterial agent. Dr. Blaiche states “Among the more active of oils, Oregano is the best of the best. The essential oil of oregano has always provided me with amazing results in treating infectious diseases. Dr. Jean Valnet who is a French authority on the use and benefits of essentials oils, states that essential oils “proved to be many times more effective at killing pathogenic microorganisms than antibiotics.”
An active ingredient of oil of oregano is carvacrol which has been found to help relieve upper respiratory infections such as colds and sinus infections. It potently inhibits platelet aggression which is a risk factor in blood clot formation that is a major cause of strokes and heart attacks. Oil of oregano, in one study, was found to reduce melanoma by 50% in vitro. Oil of oregano has powerful anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties. This is important because parasites and viruses, like yeasts, cannot be treated successfully by antibiotics. In a 1966 study published in Medical sciences Research, it was shown that oil of oregano killed RNA and DNA viruses such as sold sores, genital herpes, and shingles. This makes it a very beneficial for treating the conditions of colds and flu. Oil of oregano is significantly effective in treating various forms of harmful parasites. Oil of oregano is an effective digestive aid. Oil of oregano has also been found to surpass prescription synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs in it’s effectiveness in relieving and reversing pain and has been said to be almost as powerful as morphine. Oil of oregano has been shown to strengthen the immune system. As an antioxidant, it halts the formation of cholesterol which is responsible for arteriosclerosis, i.e. hardening of the arteries.
An extra advantage of oil of oregano is that it can be used either topically or internally, depending upon the need and target ailment e.g. acne, allergies, arthritis, asthma, athlete’s foot, blood clots, bronchitis, candida, canker sores, colds, flu, constipation, croup, dandruff, diarrhea, digestive disorders, earaches, fatigue, fungal infection, gastrointestinal infection, gum disease, hay fever, headaches, inflammation, insect bites, menstrual irregularities, muscle pain parasites, psoriasis, ringworm, rosacea, seborrhea, sinusitis, thrombus, toenail fungus, and immune system.
Often known as a cooking herb, there is much more to oregano when it is used in essential oil form .It’s long list of health benefits makes it one of nature’s best kept secrets, a natural health aid that is a remarkably miraculous and versatile medicine. If we are suffering from any the before mentioned health ailments, we would be well served to explore the healing properties of this miraculous herb, oil of oregano.

While homeopathy had been around for more than 200 years, a serious use of homeopathic software is a question of the last 20 years at maximum. Despite the massive advantages of using the homeopathic software, there is still a great number of homeopathic practitioners who don’t feel the need to invest their time and money into such kind of fancy.
The difference in practicing homeopathy in the modern days and a hundred years ago might not be obvious at first. Why should anyone waste their time learning to use a homeopathic software, if our predecessors could easily do without it? Or could they?
If you think about the invention of homeopathic repertory (such as Kent’s repertory, to name the most famous one, although it was not the first), you can clearly see the incentive to organize the growing amount of information, which was quickly outgrowing the limits of human capacity. Since they did not have computers at the time, the information was organized into rubrics and corresponding remedies and published as a book, which was a fantastic thing to do, because it greatly enhanced and simplified the tedious process of finding the matching remedy for the patient’s symptoms.
With repertories around, the life got easier for homeopaths, but still far from easy. Even with a repertory, the practitioner still needed to spend quite bit of time learning the structure of rubrics. Since repertory is basically a database of rubrics linked to remedies, its implementation in homeopathic software is pretty straightforward, with one essential difference – in homeopathic software, you DON’T need to learn the structure of the repertory before you can use it. With powerful search functions available in homeopathic softwares, you can start using ANY repertory right now!
With the ability to locate the matching rubrics quickly and easily (good homeopathic software should also implement the use of synonyms and cross-references), you can make your evaluation in a time span of several minutes, which leaves you a plenty of time to study the case using several approaches, peek into materia medica for confirmation etc. If you would have to do the same manually (without any homeopathic software), it would take you several hours to do it properly and that’s why very few practitioners do it. Experienced homeopaths who do not use any homeopathic software prescribe on keynotes or key symptoms for each remedy. But imagine this – even if you knew a hundred keynotes for hundred remedies (I am quite confident they usually know no more than twenty per remedy), you are still hopelessly far to encompass tens of thousands of symptoms available in modern repertories.
The conclusion is obvious: if a homeopathic practitioner does not use any homeopathic software, even with a phenomenal memory, they are putting the largest part of homeopathic knowledge away and utilizing just that tiny fraction they can master. What a waste.
With widespread use of many suppressing drugs pharmaceutical industry produces, the cure is more difficult to achieve than it was a hundred years ago. It is therefore even more essential to base our prescriptions on solid foundations and without limitations of oversimplification required by non-computerized approach.

I didn’t think parents still used baby jumpers/jolly jumpers anymore because of the damage it does to a baby’s spine. For me, hanging a baby from a door frame seems odd and somehow wrong? I read recently of a mother who practices “attachment parenting” She co-sleeps, baby wears and now toddler-wears and is very critical and scathing of strollers and cribs and parents who use them. Yet she used a jolly jumper for her baby? This seems in complete contradiction of natural parenting. What are your views on jolly jumpers?
The thoracic curve is already there as part of the C-shaped curve we start out with. It is very important to let these curves develop naturally so that the baby will have a healthy spine. Encouraging a child to walk or stand too early in life (as seen in a “Jolly Jumper” apparatus) may put unnatural forces through an undeveloped spine.

No, I don’t follow doctor’s sears.
I do what works for me and my son.
I read and I am informed about child and infant health/development etc and parenting issues/styles but I trust my intuition over any “expert”.
I am critical of a lot of what Dr Sears advocates. I am especially critical of his two “doctor” sons who should not be practicing medicine due to the dangerous and incorrect cr*p they dish out. The vast majority of the medical community are very critical of the two sons as well.
I tried a sling & hated it.
Ended up carrying my son everywhere….
DYOT
Yes…..what_every_adult_wants
to hang off a doorframe…….for fun…..
I understand most parents would supervise but….the baby is still in a restrictive device hanging off a door frame…..
Some doctors and physiotherapists (in Aust) have been trying to get them taken off the market.
Walkers are still in use despite the known safety risks and moves to ban them.
dmg, lol
I’m not really an “attachment parenting” mum. Co-slept now & then to get some sleep but still used a cot (crib). Used a pram when my son would allow it which wasn’t often. Didn’t use a sling-baby & I both hated it…etc etc. Had to carry my son everywhere out of necessity, not choice but the exercise was great.
But I need to be more anti and anti-jolly jumper mum is right up my alley.
Next will be “anti-baby shirts with stupid cutesy slogans”.
I’m a mum on a mission….
Mark’s wifee-your answer was one of the best, lol
Like the dinosaurs before us [and every other animal], isn’t our only reason to exist is to have sex and make more babies? And if sex is so natural and important, why is it treated like it’s dirty, to be hidden?
Natural and alternative cures is not new news. In fact, it probably is the oldest news in the history of medicine. Old civilizations, such as those in India and China, have used this for thousands of years to cure their people. In these countries, especially China, modern medicine has a healthy coexistence with traditional medicine, having a huge 60% to 40% ratio for health care delivered, respectively. As a testament to it’s pervasiveness, Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal cures and Ayurvedic treatments have even found a niche in the West. It’ll make you think that these therapies and cures are doing some people some good, seeing that they have stood the test of time and still as widespread as they are now.The West has not been ignorant to recognizing the potential of finding natural ways to cure human sickness. Homeopathic treatments, developed in Germany in the 1700, is a form of alternative medicine based on the principles first defined by physician Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathy roughly translates to “like cures like”, “homeo” being Greek for “like” and “patho” meaning “disease”. This kind of treatment also advocates the use of chemicals and compounds which can be extracted from flora and fauna.Alternative medicine is still growing in prevalence so much so that even modern pharmaceutical companies are feeling the need to step up the competition. Although some are already manufacturing health supplements like garlic capsules, grape seed extract etc. it’ll be a long time till the twain shall meet. Why should one try alternative cures? Looking at the basics, it is oftentimes cheaper and less invasive. Some medication are just too strong and will cause some side effects, especially on children. Also, most alternative cures require stuff which can easily be found in the house or garden. It can even be as simple as adding or substituting ingredients to a meal. To get you started on discovering what natural cures can do for you and your family, please try some of these suggestions:If your child is having problems with mouth infections or cavities, try using salt instead of regular toothpaste. Most commercial toothpastes are too strong and kills off naturally occurring good bacteria of the mouth along with the bad. If salt is too unpalatable, try mixing it with crushed mint leaves. For teens or anyone having acne or pimple problems, apply lemon juice or orange peel extract instead of astringents. Some astringents are just too strong, they literally dry off the skin, leaving it vulnerable to infection. To moisturize and revitalize the skin after a long day, make a poultice out of cucumber and oatmeal (oatmeal so the mixture will hold together). Apply and leave for several hours. There are a lot of cures for coughs but here is one that seems most palatable. Grape juice (from natural grapes of course) acts as an expectorant and relaxes the lungs. Mix a cup with honey, just make sure it is not cold.Speaking of honey, this wonder of nature is also good for scrapes and wounds! Wash the wound or scrape first, put honey or better yet Manuka Honey (a special kind of honey found in New Zealand) on a bandage and then wrap the wound up. Amino acids and vitamin C found in honey speed up the growth of healthy tissue while the naturally occuring hydrogen peroxide it contains is released slowly, killing germs in the wound. For babies, a frequent problem can be diaper rash. The diaper should never be allowed to stay wet and should be changed immediately. Once the baby is clean, apply an ample amount of cornstarch and not talcum powder on your baby’s tushie. If the rash is severe, use cod liver oil or shark liver oil (squalene). Squalene penetrates the skin quickly and does not leave a greasy feeling on the skin.If the child has been toilet trained already yet still has a problem with bedwetting, try giving him a small cup of cranberry juice an hour before sleeping. Cranberry juice has done wonders for the human urological system since time immemorial. Herbs like causticum, lycopodium, ursi, corn silk and pulsatilla also has been known to help.Burns are also unavoidable with children. For minor burns without wounds, apply some ground up aloe vera on the affected part to help with the cooling. If burn marks appear sometime after, put some papaya on it. The papaya fruit is known to have enzymes that effectively help remove dead skin cells. These are only some of the many things you can try out. If there is one thing natural medicine has in common with modern medicine, it is when to use the right medicine where and how. Simply put, a Chinese herbalist will do the same as a doctor. Most probably he will ask about the history of your sickness, what foods you are allergic to and after prescribing the medicine, tell you that you need to watch what you eat, exercise in moderation etc.

Acupuncture Health:
Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and dates back thousands of years. It involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the skin or applying various other techniques to the acupuncture points to bring about healing.
The ancient Chinese proposed that a balance of two opposing yet complementary forces of energy, called Yin and Yang, sustain every living thing. Half the bodyâs organs and meridians are defined as Yin in relation to the other half, which are defined as Yang. When Yin and Yang are out of balance in the body, disease may occur.
How acupuncture is performed:
Choosing an acupuncturist:
Some health care practitioners offer acupuncture after completing a short course. However, the philosophy of acupuncture is complex, so you should only use a qualified acupuncturist. From 2000, all Victorian acupuncturists and Chinese herbalists have to be registered. You donât need a referral from your doctor to see an acupuncturist.
