Chandigarh is known as the garden city. It has a lot of gardens around the different section of the place. See some of them here.
Chandigarh is India’s well constructed city. Its architecture is world class and unparalleled, and offers a good quality of living conditions. This place is a dream project of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and Le Corbusier. This is the very first planned city in India. It was rightfully named the “Beautiful City” because it is not just rich but also prosperous of spic and span and green nature. It definitely lives up to its branding.
The Chandigarh is also known as the Garden City of India. They have a wide collection of garden plants all well maintained. Cleanliness greatly adds beauty to the surroundings. The locals love to be in touch with nature and the cosmos and they manifest this by keeping their environment clean. The Chandigarh was even proclaimed the World’s Rock Garden and the Largest Rose Garden in Asia. Because of this, Chandigarh has always been in the list of favorite spots to visit around the world.
Rock Garden Chandigarh
This is the premier attraction in Chandigarh since 1958. It was created by Nek Chand Saini. This was formed out of the urban waste materials found in the city. These urban wastes include tin cans, bottles, plates, broken plugs and saucers. These materials were formed into beautiful textures and patterns. There were many materials were formed out of these wastes. The place has series of chamber but the first phase is a small canyon. The place has broken ceramics of human and animal form.
Chandigarh Botanical gardens
There were two botanical gardens in the place – Botanical Garden of Punjab University and another one between Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. These botanical gardens are the main attractions of the place. The Punjab University Botanical garden is a place full of cacti and succulent plants. It has both evergreen and exotic plants. Lotus flowers are also abundant.
The Botanical garden between Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake has rare species of plants and pools of small lilies. This is a big garden with a total area of 88 acres. There is one botanical garden still to be developed up to now. It also grows trees that offer medicinal value and indigenous species of plants.
Chandigarh Bougainvillea Park
This is one garden where you can find all varieties of bougainvillea flowers. This was created in 1976. There are 65 varieties of bougainvillea in this place. This also has creepers that contain collection of arches, pavilions, bowers and arcades. This place has been famous because of the bougainvillea show held here annually.

This is created mainly for physical fitness in 1965. Now it has been transformed to a very beautiful garden, with many gorgeous seasonal flowers to see. There are also wonderful sculptures adorned throughout the area that adds to the relaxing ambiance. This garden offers scenic beauty with the natural combination of physical exercise and beauty.
Garden of Fragrance
This is another garden that draws a big number of guests everyday. It offers plants with sweet fragrances and aroma. It houses varieties of jasmine, Haar Shingar, motia, Raat ki rani, demask roase, Champa and mehndi. This place has a nice picnic spot for you to enjoy. Homeopathic Remedies Could They Be An Option For You

Philosophy of Homeopathic Remedies
Our human body has the capacity to heal itself. The main principal of Homeopathy is “Like may be cured by like.” These all natural remedies that are derived from ingredients such as plant, mineral or animal kingdom are used in low dose amounts to combat common ailments such as stomach ache, cough, diarrhea and Flu like symptoms as well as other medical conditions like High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol levels, menstrual and menopausal symptoms. The list of ailments that can be trusted by alternative medicine is endless.
Homeopathy’s roots began with the teachings of a German physician named Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. (1755- 1843) Most of the remedies produced today, still ad hear to the same dilution principals used by Dr. Hahnemann. As with conventional prescription drugs these remedies can be taken in the same way – orally, topically or injected. The upside to taking Homeopathic medicine is that there are no adverse reactions like chemically produced prescription drugs. You may often experience a “healing aggravation” which can be explained as a temporary accentuation of your symptoms. This is a sure sign that the remedy taken is working.
Practice of Homeopathic Medicine
All medical doctors can practice alternative medicine. However, please note that there is no specific diploma or certification from any school that gives license to practice Homeopathy in the United States. However, there is the “American Board of Homeotherapeutics that will certify a doctor with a “Diplomate of Homeopathy” award. There must be continuing Education to receive this award. There is a list of beginner, intermediate and advanced Homeopathic training programs that give accreditation. Many Homeopaths are also dentist, veterinarians, nutritionists, osteopaths, chiropractors and pediatricians.
The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has recognized homeopathic medicines since 1938. Homeopathic remedies are classified by the FDA as prescription or non-prescription, (over the counter) depending upon the strength and amount of remedy taken.
Holistic healing and alternative medicine enjoyed a resurgence in the United States. People are wanting to take charge of their health care and are becoming willing participants in their own treatment decisions. The type of Homeopathic therapies is staggering that is why it is so important to keep informed on the available remedies and cures offered in this fast paced field. It is up to you to find Homeopathic answers to true health and make informed decisions on your own course of treatment. The first step would be to find a Certified Homeopathic doctor in your area. A great source of information that I would recommend is the National Center for Homeopathy website. Also, you could visit the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine site as well.
I hope this article has enlightened you to another source of alternative treatment besides the conventional pharmaceutical drugs that are so widely used by doctors and hospitals today.
We are all born of nature and it is to nature that we should turn when seeking the answers to our health and healing.

Creating Wildlife Gardens

Creating a wildlife garden allows you take part in your larger surrounding environment. Often gardens are completely shut out from the natural landscape around it and aren’t welcoming to birds and other wildlife. Adding a few well placed and well chosen shrubs or trees can make all the difference when trying to attract birds to your garden.

Map out and observe your surroundings to see what natural habitats are close by. Are there any ponds, rivers, or streams? Are parks, golf courses or nature reserves nearby? Remember, your garden is part of the larger environment. Knowing what the local ecosystems are will better enable you to plan your garden.

In order to attract birds, gardens must supply them with food, water, shelter and nesting areas. Provide for different bird species by making available a variety of seed and berry producing trees and shrubs, such as Washington hawthorn, mountain ash, cherry and viburnum. Flowers such as hollyhock, nasturtium, and sunflower produce seed which attract birds as well. Indigenous plants, those which grow naturally in a specific area, are very effective at attracting local bird species. Try to incorporate some of these into your garden.

Also, be sure to provide food throughout the year. For example, in the spring have a few different berry producing shrubs available, such as blueberries and raspberries. In the summer, perennials provide seed and in the fall trees such as dogwood and serviceberry bear fruit which birds will seek out. Birds which over winter in your area will need sustenance provided by winterberry and other fruit bearing shrubs.

Different birds need different foods and different environments in which to live. Robins, for example, eat at ground level where they forage for insects and worms while many other birds prefer to be off the ground a bit in the midst of a perennials garden where they eat the seeds of the flowers. Some birds, like grosbeaks, prefer the height of shrubs and others still, such as the woodpecker, prefer to be in the canopy of taller trees where their able to find insects in the tree’s bark.

Plants, while providing food, also supply birds with shelter. Evergreens and other dense shrubs provide nesting areas and protection from cold winter winds and create shade in the heat of the summer. While it may be impossible to incorporate all these habitats into your garden, plan at least a couple. The more habitats you can provide the more birds will flock to your garden.

Along with food, birds require water for both drinking and bathing. If there aren’t any natural water sources near your garden, be sure to place a birdbath or water dish in the area. Keep the water fresh by filling it daily. In the winter when the water freezes knock out the ice and replace with fresh water. Most home and garden stores that stock birdbaths sell small water heaters which will prevent freezing. If you are considering using one of these consult an electrician to help with the installation. If their aren’t any natural water systems in your area, consider planning a water garden, just remember bird prefer shallow water to deep water. Waterfalls and bubbling fountains will attract a number of birds since most species are drawn to the sound of running water.

If you’re contemplating using a bird feeder, maintain it and be sure to keep it stocked as birds often come to depend on these feeders, especially during the lean, harsh months of winter. Since birds are attracted to a variety of different foods, supply them with seeds, berries, fats, breads and nuts. Avoid salty foods. Using a birdhouse for your seed provides shelter as well as a place for food.

Creating a garden which attracts birds has positive effect on the environment; you’re providing a new habitat for birds and well as beneficial insects and other wildlife. While birds will thrive and will benefit the most from your efforts, you’re also providing years of enjoyment for both yourself and visitors to your garden.

Going Green? Then Think When You Clean!

Going green is a huge issue for businesses these days. Not only does it benefit the environment, it can also help a business by improving their reputation, reducing bills, and ensuring that government regulations are being followed.

Whilst businesses are quick to take on the obvious initiatives such as recycling and being energy efficient, some of the more practical measures that can quite easily be taken are overlooked. One of these measures is cleaning.

Green cleaning is the latest buzz-phrase and soon it will be considered as customary as recycled copy paper, low-energy light bulbs and ‘think before you print this e-mail’ footnotes.

Green cleaning? Yes it’s about swapping traditional chemical cleaners for products that meet UK green standards, that’s the obvious concept. But like many things, it’s the technique that counts.

Amongst other things, green cleaning concentrates on lengthening the lifespan of things like floor coverings. Making sure your cleaner is using an ergonomically designed vacuum cleaner could extend the life of carpets or rugs, as well as improve the general wellbeing of surroundings by actually removing air-bound particles rather than just displacing them.

Doesn’t sound too difficult, does it? So what else can be done?

Green cleaning should result in a meticulously clean, fresh-smelling workspace that doesn’t suffer from over-bearing cover-up fragrances. What does ‘clean’ smell like? The answer is that it shouldn’t have an odour at all, but simply smell clean – and this can be achieved via thorough and natural cleaning methods.

Embedding green tactics within your office cleaning systems will create a hygienic and healthy workspace and create a sense of wellbeing for all your employees; and will speak volumes for your environmental policy.

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary- How Green Does Your Garden Grow?

If you’re wanting to make your lawn and garden more eco-friendly, well, that’s a good thing. Considering the fact that the average suburban lawn uses six times the hazardous chemicals per acre, as conventional farming and that a gas mower emits 10 times as much hydrocarbon as a car, you’re sentiment is one that the earth is in need of. Although gardens have that illusion of being “green” just by their very nature, truth is, in most garden centers, the supply sources for many gardeners, you will likely find rows of chemical pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers, products that have been linked to serious illness and the production of carbon dioxide. So here are a few tips for you to lessen your footprint as you go about beautifying your outdoor space.

Try a natural approach to pesticides by appealing to the benefits of diversity. Plant a wide variety of different plants together and you’ll create a natural defense for unwanted insects. Your diversity in plants will not only be colorful, but will attract a diversity of predators who’ll pay you back by munching on unwanted guests. Another helpful natural pesticide hint is to use the pungent power of garlic. Yes, garlic is good to ward off mortal enemies, and it’s strong scent is useful in terms of preventing insects from finding their favorite host plants. But, you don’t want to stink up your whole garden or you’ll deter even the helpful insects.

Composting your organic materials and applying them to your garden is a great way to add friendly micro-organisms and great nutrients to your soil. Along these lines, did you know you can do some very easy composting of sorts by simply leaving your grass clippings to decompose? They’ll add nitrogen to your soil , which is what fertilizers aim to do. Also, they’ll stimulate some worm activity. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, yummy! Lawns love earthworms. So let things lie. Part of becoming a greener gardener, is to have a more “laiser faire” attitude when it comes to “controlling” everything.

Another lawn tip, is to cut your grass high, by setting your lawn mower to cut higher than usual. Taller blades of grass effectively absorb more sun, are better at pushing out weeds and conserve moisture by shading the soil. Three to four inches is an appropriate length, or think about only knocking off one-third of the grass height at each mowing.

Ideally, we shouldn’t be watering our gardens at all. But, if you must water, then do so consciously. Watering in the early morning or in the evening is best, as this is when there is the least amount of water evaporation. Use a soaker or drip hose to get water to the root’s where it is most needed.

If you’re lawn still needs an extra boost, consider the use of all organic fertilizers. These fertilizers release their nutrients more slowly into the soil and nourish laws more steadily and over a longer period of time. By using organic fertilizers, you’re making an effort to keep harmful toxic synthetic chemicals away from your family, and your neighborhood.

Nature Nurtures

Outdoor play is becoming increasingly rare among children both in the U.S. and the U.K., even in rural areas. Children are intimately familiar with complex virtual worlds and all their characters, yet no longer learn the names of the creatures that inhabit their back yards. This has far-reaching implications for emotional and physical development and for family life. Closeness to nature can even be a powerful antidote to attention deficit and other disorders.

Children in today’s world are under pressure from a number of sources, which is keeping them from the great – and small – outdoors. Studies and competition from televisions, computer games, mobile phones and other gadgets is all but severing young people’s connection with the natural world. Many children, unfamiliar with the wilds and for the most part living in urban settings, are even afraid of outdoors. Some of this fear is justified, but it is heightened by news coverage and reality TV shows. Parents are aware of the risks of accidents in the outdoor world, but increasing numbers of youngsters are beginning to suffer from repetitive stress injuries by overuse of keyboards and game consol.

Peter Cornall, head of leisure safety of Britain’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, even goes so far as to suggest that children who do not play outdoors may be more at risk from accident, because they have not learned by trial and error what is safe. Children need to get wet and stung by insects, they need to learn to slip, trip up, what hurts. Over and above this, mental health is reliant on outdoor play. Children who play in natural areas tend to be more creative and able to invent their own games. Nature play also lengthens the attention span. Researchers at the University of Illinois have discovered that five-year-olds showed a significant reduction in symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder when they had a chance to get to grips with nature. Proximity to nature in and around the home also promotes self-confidence and improves body-image.

It is not always easy to bring your children back into contact with nature, because life has become so urban. To make a small start, get your child to be more aware of a small area at the edge of a garden, field or pond. Concentrate on the boundaries – where the trees stop and a field begin, where rock and earth meet water. Sit motionless by a pond. Use all of your senses. Wait for the frogs to plop – or sing. Go rambling in woods or field with your children. Keep a nature journal, getting the child to use words or pictures to attempt to capture what he or she has experienced – the flight of a bumblebee, the bend and ping of a blade of grass.

It isn’t necessary to learn all the names of the plants and creatures, but to open your eyes and ears to them. Feeling is believing. American writer Deborah Churchman has a great idea – the moth walk: first blend up some fruit juice, a touch of beer or wine and some sugar or honey. Slap the mixture onto a tree or some other rough surface. Go back later and see what you have lured.

Encouraging the child to grow a garden or window box will be very rewarding and probably the best way of creating a lasting love of the natural world.

Reuniting kids with nature is as rewarding as finishing several oil painting portraits. Family portrait artists like Jerry Carpos suggest that prolonged contact with nature can strengthen a child?s immune system.
