The How’s and Why’s of DIY Green Cleaning

We all have been hearing about the detriment to our bodies and our environment from the numerous chemicals in non-ecofriendly, household detergents and cleaners.Key Laundry Detergent’s Ingredients ToxicOn the website of Department of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their article dated 1999 titled “Key Characteristics of Laundry Detergent” they warn us that the key ingredients of most laundry detergents (with such innocuous names as, colorants, brighteners, surfactants, builders) are found to be toxic to humans and animals in a range of serious issues, including giving off hazardous gases, destroying and polluting eco-systems, and causing cancer.I don’t know about you, but in my very busy family of teens and two working parents, we do a lot of laundry. Often these same chemicals and worse are in our cleaners, disinfectants, and dish washing detergents. This is why I choose green cleaning products.Worst OffendersTwo of the worst toxins are phenol and formaldehyde found in many disinfectants and cleaners. (Formaldehyde, the same chemical used to preserve dead bodies.) According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), an environmental action group, “Formaldehyde is used in …some disinfectants, antibacterial soaps and even beauty products. Formaldehyde has been classified as a probable human carcinogen by the EPA….Home exposure to formaldehyde has been linked to respiratory allergies in children.”According to the Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) Guidelines for Phenol states that phenol is not a carcinogenic, but it did cause cancer in rats over a short span of time! Needless to say, I am livid, that sounds like a “carcinogenic substance” if you ask me! I am taking steps to clean-up (excuse the sad pun) my home from all of these poisons.A Green EducationI have found a wonderful bounty of green-cleaning blogs and sites full of information and advice–kindred spirits to myself–growing together and spurring one another on in “Green-ness”. Sometimes there is conflicting information around or worse yet “rumors” and also occasionally there has been controversy, even about some “green” manufacturers not truly being truthful in their labeling!!I am seeking to be on top of ALL of this information as a wife, mom, homemaker, and environmentalist. I want to be “in the know” for my own life and I want to share that with you–to do my part in helping “green-up” the cleaning product industry. Our voice matters and each time you or I buy, we speak. There are some great, green products out there on the market; now even finding their way into Mainstream Grocery Stores. I am reviewing them one-by-one, attempting to give you the good, the bad, and “the dirt” on them.My Natural Cleaning Product Review BlogThe most important rule I’ve learned is: READ THE LABELS!Read between-the-lines and know the terminology, so that you can know exactly what they mean. For example: “fragrance” usually means a synthetic fragrance, but “essential oil” means the real thing! Or “Natural” can actually refer to a “natural, but toxic” ingredient. I started this blog out of my own research as a concerned, eco-conscious consumer.Sometimes I make my own detergent–and today I wanted to “review my own recipe”. P.S. I’m not a supermom, I found that taking a couple hours every few months to whip up this “recipe” has been very easy.My Own DIY Laundry DetergentI combined a few of recipes found online that were simple –I like simple. Then off to the supermarket I went and purchased just a few household “normals” with which to mix my clothes detergent. What was on my list? White vinegar, baking soda, borax, washing soda, and good, old-fashioned soap:Laundry Detergent6 cups Baking Soda3 cups Washing Soda*3 cups Borax**6 bars Soap (any kind, grated up)*Washing Soda is sodium carbonate, a close cousin of Baking Soda, and is not edible or interchangeable, but it is an all-natural way to increase detergent’s cleaning power. It helps to get out ground-in dirt, stains, and grease.**Borax, also is a natural detergent “booster”.I chop the soap with a large knife and grate it in my blender. You can use any kind of bar soap, I try to use only all-natural ones. They are a little pricier, but this recipe last for 3 months.I measure all the ingredients and add everything in a large reusable plastic container with a lid. For a normal load of laundry I use 1/4 cup of the detergent. Also, for those who like fragrance with their detergents, you can add a dropperful (30-40 drops) of essential oil of your choice to the detergent at the mixing stage. Some essential oils have been known to be natural disinfectants too, like lavender, tea tree, and thyme. For Rinsing: I use 1/2 cup white vinegar in a blue “Downy” ball during the rinse cycle for “fabric softener”. It also adds some disinfecting qualities to help rinse out remaining dirt or soap residue and many germs. You could also add the white vinegar to the rinse container in your washer.Heinz company spokesperson, Michael Mullen, has referenced studies that show that a straight solution of 5% vinegar—the kind you can buy in the supermarket—kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold, and 80 % of germs (viruses) within 10 minutes. This natural cleaning product combination of all-natural detergent and vinegar rinse has been working great on our laundry for our active family of four. I love the smell of clean and the satisfaction of doing it Green!

Learn About The Ways People Cook In Argentina

Argentina is South America’s second largest country, snugly situated between the Andes mountain range, the Pacific Ocean, and the South American countries of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Chile. Being situated in such a manner, Argentina is exposed to many different cultural influences from all directions, including countries all the way across the Pacific. Spain took it upon themselves to permanently settle in the country in the late 1500s, and remained there until Buenos Aires formally emancipated themselves in 1853. One of the most remarkable differences between Argentine Cuisine and exotic cuisines from around the world is the heavy influence that the cuisine of the Italian and Spanish cultures had on it. Startlingly enough, due to the influence of the Italian culture on the country of Argentina, Italian food staples such as lasagna, pizza, pasta, and ravioli are commonly seen on the Argentine table, at least in the country’s major cities. Unusually enough (when it comes to Italian food), white bread is also common, as are side dishes made of vegetables native to Argentina, such as potatoes, egglpants, squash, cucumbers, and zucchini. Argentina is also one of the world’s leading producers of milk, wheat, corn, and meat (including, but not limited to beef, goat meat, pork, and lamb) so naturally, these things are very common in the Argentine dish. Argentine dishes are normally very high in protein, so grilled meats are commonly seen on a plate of Argentine food. Empanadas, pastries stuffed with meat or cheese, are also an Argentine favorite. They are commonly served in Argentine restaurants, and are national favorites. Empanadas are normally eaten baked or fried, and are often served at parties or festivals as appetizers. The dessert version of an empanada usually consists of brown sugar or fruit such as apples or oranges. In smaller cities, the foreign influences of Spain and Italy are less apparent. Milanesas, thin slivers of meat dipped in eggs, bread crumbs, and then fried in oil, are common fare in the rural areas of Argentina. Their simplicity makes them great snacks, but they can also be served as part of a meal piping hot served with mashed potatoes, or between two slices of bread as a sandwich. The master chefs are more apt to return to the more classic, provincial style of preparing and cooking food, which bears more of a resemblance to Mexican cuisine than that of Italy. Bolder, more intense spices are used. Calling forth once more the Spanish influences in Argentina, Argentine cooks are famous for their tortillas; unlike the Mexican version of the tortilla the Argentines use potato dough, in contrast to the traditional Mexican corn or flour tortilla. Desserts are more popular in these areas, as well. Dulce de leche (which roughly translates into “Milk Jam”), a sweet pudding of sugar and milk, is a popular dessert in Argentina. This lightly brown-colored pudding is eaten alone, or stuffed in cakes or pies. Sometimes the treat is also crystallized into a solid wafer-like candy substance.

Parenting and the Control Myth

What do unicorns, Atlantis, and the Easter bunny all have in common? You guessed it! They are all myths. That’s not to say that believing in myths is always bad. I’m a big fan of the tooth fairy and Santa and will happily continue to propagate those fairy tales to my children and their children. There are, however, some myths that can be harmful to us if we choose to believe them. Among one of these is the notion that as parents we can control our children. I’m here to tell you that it can’t be done and if you’ve been told otherwise, you’ve been fed a mouthful of lies. Before I became a coach, I was employed with the Utah Youth Village as a Families First Specialist teaching at-risk families life skills. It was very much like unto what you see on Nanny 911 and Super Nanny on TV. I learned a number of lessons from this experience, but the most poignant of them was that when you try to control your kids it only causes anger, resentment, and eventually rebellion. Children who feel manipulated and abused will turn to drugs, sex, and all other kinds of delinquent behavior as a result of such treatment. Certainly this is often the case for children who suffer parental neglect, but that is outside the scope of this article. The good news is that in order to get the desired behavior from your child, there is a better and more effective way. It is called teaching. When you teach your child what you expect from them, it gives them a clear idea of what the appropriate choice or behavior would be in a given situation. Believe it or not, children don’t always make bad choices spitefully. More often than not, I believe it’s because they haven’t been taught a better way. By nature we avoid behaviors that cause us pain and continue behaviors that produce good results. When you train a dog, you teach them the desired behavior and then when they do it, you reward them. Children learn the same way. Sit down with your child, teach them the appropriate response in a situation, and reward them when they apply it correctly. Conversely, if you’ve taught them and they don’t obey, you extend a fair consequence and teach them the principle again. You continue this process until they get it right – always encouraging and motivating them along the way. How do you know if as a parent you’re teaching or controlling? Controlling is negative, demanding, reactive, and punitive when mistakes are made. Teaching is positive, instructional, focuses on prevention and openly invites free agency of the child. Through this consistent teaching process, your child will learn how to live independently, responsibly and happily and they’ll do it because THEY chose to, not because you forced them – and they will love you for it.

BLOOD GROUP BASED NATURAL DIET

BLOOD GROUP BASED NATURAL DIET

Your diet should be related to your Blood Group. So find out your blood group then plan or think of your food.

Well, this is the truth; blood group and food are very closely related. Recent studies have proved that every blood group serves a different food group. Therefore, we are not supposed to gorge on any food item placed before us.

When we take in food, it undergoes certain chemical reaction with the blood. Some tend to be beneficial, while some are toxic. However, some are both beneficial and toxic. Now let’s have a look at the suitable food items based on blood groups:

“A” Group

Vegetarian food items are most suitable. Use of fresh vegetables is preferable. Vegetable proteins of beans and pulses help in giving them immunity from diseases. This blood group is most susceptible to heart diseases, cancer and diabetes.

They cannot digest milk and milk products easily. However, yoghurt may be taken in.

Vegetables like cabbage, tomato, potato and sweet potato must be avoided, for these may cause gastric problems. Among fruits, it’s better to avoid mango, papaya and banana.

 “B” group

Variegated but balanced diet suits “B” group the most. They can take in lots of fruits and vegetables. Milk and milk products won’t cause any problem for them.

However, tomato won’t suit them. It is bound to cause stomach problems. They tend to gain weight on eating wheat, pulses and groundnut.

 “AB” group

Reduce on the amounts of meat in your diet.

They do not have the amounts of acid required to digest meat. Digestive system gets affected on increased intake of non vegetarian items. Avoid pulses and groundnut in huge amounts. Milk will not pose any problem for them. Rice is preferable over wheat.

 “O” group

This group can confidently gorge into non vegetarian items. They possess an excellent digestive system. Milk and pulses are not very good for them. Certain beans can affect the function of the thyroid glands.

Avoid highly salted food stuffs. Vegetables will help in improving their immunity system.

Probiotics And Intestinal Problems: Natural Herbal Colon Cleanse And Probiotics Solve Many Ailments.

OUTCOMES OF A NATURAL HERBAL COLON CLEANSE

There are four major outcomes and topics related to a natural herbal colon cleanse that are not new, but include a five letter word with new information that changes the face of diet and good colon health. Many of us are aware that an immediate result of a good colon cleanse is weight loss. That would be followed by restored colon health and probiotics which bring balance to our colon’s friendly bacteria. Once we have done all this we can maintain the renewed colon health with a five letter word.

Studies and practice has shown me that a natural herbal colon cleanse will first result in an immediate drop of 10-20, or more , pounds after the initial week or two. I can attest that I personally lost 15 pounds and expected to lose more. I was a good 30pounds over weight after years of watching my diet and exercising regularly. My friends were always telling me how great I looked. I anticipated a loss of 20 lbs. EASY! However, I neglected to factor in the five letter word.

LENGTH OF TYPICAL COLON CLEANSE

I continued my colon cleanse another two weeks and started to feel the extra energy, clarity and was sleeping better. All the things they said would happen, DID! I felt so great I started to feel like the cleanse was over and I could go back to business as usual. You understand the human psyche, once we start to feel better we think we’re out of the woods. Not so! Our bodies are being deprived of the necessary nutrients because of processing and the toxins in our environment.

Most of us have accumulated POUNDS of red meat, fat, toxins and contaminates in the first 30-40 years of life and expect to have that problem resolved in 2-3 or 4 weeks. NOT going to happen! Our foods contain only a portion of the nutrients and vitamins our parents enjoyed and the food processing removes even more. This is going to require a life style change and a much greater use of the five letter word.

AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY

Studies have proven that exercise is not the singular answer and neither is reducing our intake. Our early ancestors walked everywhere and did not have fast foods to battle and only lived to 20 years of age, if a dinosaur did not get them first. Our parents averaged 70 years old but were not exposed to the same level of toxins and contaminants that we have. Yet the experts project we will live til 75-80. This seems a lot like assuming to me.

How do I know if I have a healthy colon?

Simple, if you have at least one bowel movement a day, with solid bowels, and very little constipation. Of course, if you’re a weight-lifter and eat 4000-5000 calories a day (Scary, I know), 2 or so bowel movements is normal. But if you’re like normal people, you should ideally only have 1-2 bowel movements a day. No more, no less.

WHAT NORMAL BOWELS LOOK LIKE

So, what do normal bowels look like?

• A healthy bowel is 8-12 inches long and around 2.5 inches wide. • The bowels are solid, aren’t in little pieces or slimy-like. • Contrary to popular belief, healthy bowels do not have to sink. Or float. Depending on your diet, it can go both ways. • Normal bowels have a brownish color, but a light green color is ok too. • A normal bowel movement involves absolutely no straining whatsoever. It’s pain-free, and effortless.

Many people who choose to clean their large intestines have constipation problems, marked by constant straining when excreting. This is unhealthy and can lead to other serious illnesses. When constipation occurs, remnants of foods remain inside your body longer than they have to, which is dangerous. Think about this: What happens when you leave a peeled banana outside for several days? It turns rotten. Well, you can imagine why this could cause problems inside your body.

Studies have shown that over time, the body becomes less efficient at digesting food and maintaining high levels of probiotics in the intestines. A natural herbal colon cleanse followed by a regimen of probiotics can restore your colon and return you to good health. The colon cleanse should last about 4-8 weeks depending on your age and the diet you have had. If you have consumed a lot of processed and fatty foods for 30 years then you will probably require 8 weeks.

At the conclusion of the cleanse you would commence to take the probiotic to replace the good bacteria in your body. The colon cleanse will remove a great deal of the friendly bacteria while removing the toxins and sludge. The replenishing with probiotics could take another 8 weeks, then you would begin to implement the five letter word.

MAGIC FIVE LETTER WORD

A famous author and health authority released this plan recently and this alone could maintain your healthy colon while also keeping your weight down. Many are lowering their blood pressure and reversing diabetes by utilizing her simple but noteworthy program. The five letter word is…fiber!

Not just fiber. Her plan starts with a minimum of 35 grams of fiber every day. By implementing this program people are losing weight and lowering their blood pressure. Not only are they retaining a clean colon, there are reports of losses of 20-40 pounds in just 3-6 months. Start your healthy lifestyle now with a natural herbal colon cleanse, probiotics and a diet high in fiber. Visit our blog today at: Natural Herbal Colon Cleanse and Probiotics Blog
